Research: Preconditioning with Hyperbaric Oxygen May Lower Complications After Abdominoplasty: A Retrospective Cohort Stud

A 2019 study investigated the impact of hyperbaric oxygen on wound healing, drawing on its observed positive preconditioning effects in animal models. Patients who underwent preoperative HBOT were compared with those who did not. The study assessed the effectiveness of preoperative HBOT administered prior to abdominoplasty in reducing postoperative complications. “Given the favorable outcomes of preoperative HBOT observed in our study, there is potential for its application to benefit patients undergoing various other surgical procedures. The therapy is deemed safe and well-tolerated, and can be readily administered to most patients.”
